-3rd Sunday after Easter-

“But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people who are God’s own possession. You have become this people so that you may speak of the wonderful acts of the one who called you out of darkness into his amazing light. Once you weren’t a people, but now you are God’s people. Once you hadn’t received mercy, but now you have received mercy.” -1 Peter 2:9-10 (CEB)

Peter was writing in a time when being a Christian often meant rejection, socially, politically, and sometimes physically. These Christians didn’t have prestige or protection. But Peter doesn’t tell them to seek worldly power. Instead, he tells them: Remember who you are.

When we know who we are and to whom we belong, our lives become lives of power. Although many seats may be empty during the summer, I pray that wherever we are, we will look to God and live according to His image.

-부활절후 셋째주-

“그러나 여러분은 택하심을 받은 족속이요, 왕과 같은 제사장들이요, 거룩한 민족이요, 하나님의 소유가 된 백성입니다. 그래서 여러분을 어둠에서 불러내어 자기의 놀라운 빛 가운데로 인도하신 분의 업적을, 여러분이 선포하는 것입니다. 여러분이 전에는 하나님의 백성이 아니었으나, 지금은 하나님의 백성이요, 전에는 자비를 입지 못한 사람이었으나, 지금은 자비를 입은 사람입니다.” -베드로전서 2:9-10

베드로는 그리스도인이라는 이유만으로 사회적으로, 정치적으로, 때로는 육체적으로도 외면당하고 핍박받던 시대에 이 편지를 썼습니다. 초대 그리스도인들에게는 명예도, 존엄도, 보호도 없었습니다. 그러나 베드로는 그들에게 세상의 권력을 추구하라고 말하지 않았습니다. 대신 그는 이렇게 말합니다. “당신이 누구인지 기억하십시오”라고 말입니다.

우리가 누구인지 누구의 것인지 알때 우리의 인생은 능력있는 인생입니다. 여름동안 자리가 많이 비어있지만 어디서든지 하나님을 바라보며 하나님의 형상대로 살기를 기도합니다.
