“Canaan, The Low Places God Blesses Part 1” - Genesis 9:18-27-10:32, 12:1-7

Continuing from last Sunday, we return to the story of Noah. After the flood, God blessed Noah with a blessing similar to the one God had given to Adam. Yet Noah cursed and placed a stigma upon the child who exposed his shame. In this story, we see how easily human beings can stumble again and fall into discouragement.

Through this story, we want to reflect on how we respond when we encounter another person’s weakness, wounds, and pain. Do we expose them and spread the story, pushing that person even further down? Or do we choose mercy by covering, protecting, and helping to restore the dignity that has been lost?

In a world that is drawn to gossip, quick judgment, blame, and division, God calls us to reveal the heart of Jesus through love. God also calls us to become a community that approaches wounded places with compassion.

This Sunday is Promotion Sunday, as we begin a new school year. As we reflect on this calling together, we pray that our youth group will grow to be filled with wisdom and love. And as we worship, pray, share, and serve together to build up our community, we pray that our church will be a blessed people through whom God’s compassion flows out into the world.

3. Teacher Michel is starting Internship at our church. His installation service will be on 8/16 during the KM service - Youth will be there to support him.

-성령강림후 열한째 주일-

“가나안, 하나님께서 축복하는 낮은 자리 1부” - 창세기 9:18-27, 10:32, 12:1-7

지난주에 이어 계속해서 노아의 이야기를 살펴봅니다. 홍수이후 노아에게 아담에게 주신 축복과 같은 복을 내리셨는데, 노아는 자신의 수치를 드러낸 자식을 저주하고 낙인을 찍습니다. 인간이 얼마나 쉽게 또 실수하고 낙망하는지 보게됩니다.

이 이야기를 통해 다른 사람의 연약함과 상처, 아픔을 마주할때 우리는 어떻게 반응하는지 묵상해 보려고합니다. 그것을 드러내고 소문내어 그 사람을 더 낮은 자리로 몰아가는지, 아니면 자비로 그를 덮어주며, 보호하며, 잃어버린 존엄을 회복시켜 주는 것을 선택하는지 생각해 보려고 합니다.

소문과 성급한 판단, 비난과 분열을 좋아하는 세상 속에서 하나님께서는 우리가 사랑으로 예수님의 마음을 드러내기를 원하십니다. 또한 상처 입은 곳에 긍휼을 품고 다가서는 공동체가 되라고 우리를 부르십니다.

이번주일 프로모션 주일로 우리 아이들과 함께 새로운 학기를 시작할때, 그런 부르심을 생각해보고 지혜와 사랑이 가득찬 유스들이 되기를 간절히 기도합니다. 함께 예배하고 기도하며 나눔과 섬김으로 공동체를 세워나갈때 축복된 자로 하나님의 긍휼을 세상에 흘려보내는 주님교회가 되기를 간절히 기도합니다. 함께 나아와 낮은곳에 임하시는 주님을 기뻐했으면 좋겠습니다.
