수요사역 20주년기념

어제, 우리교회의수요사역 20주년을생일을맞아서감사예배를드렸습니다.

예배를 비롯한 모든순서들이 은혜의 시간이었습니다. 지나간 일들을 회상하는교제의 시간도있었고,  젊은회원들이준비한 푸짐한 만찬도있었습니다.  

그동안수요사역을이끌어주시고,  지켜주신 하나님께 감사하고, 수고하신 여려분께 감사를 드립니다.

 

20년전, 2004년 3월에 김옥남 권사가 카이자병원에서 약사로 36년간 근무한후, 건강문제로 일찍 은퇴했습니다.  

그해 4월 감리교단에서Deaconess (평신도사역자)로 안수를받고, 그 사역으로 노인사역을 시작했습니다. 

김권사가 $2,000을 기증해서, 담임목사이신 이성호목사님의 축도로, 이 사역을 시작했습니다.

 

Program으로는 노인들의 건강을 생각해서 체조,  노래,  영양가있는 음식대접, 그리고 즐거운 시간을 갖도록 노력헀습니다.  

San Born Park에 놀러도 가고, Filoli Garden도 갔습니다.  

요리를 잘하시는 한명순권사님이 맛있는 음식을 대접했고, 흘러간 노래들을 부르고 춤도 추면서 즐거운 시간도 가졌습니다.  

15-20명 이상이 참석했지만 이제는 다 떠나고 두 사람만 남았습니다.

 

Ca/Nevada 연회여선교회에서 주는 Beulah Grant 를매년 $10,000 씩 받으면서, 

자원봉사를 하시는분들과 같이 열심히, 그리고 즐겁게 봉사했습니다.

 

10년반을 봉사하고 김옥남 권사가 평신도 사역자를 은퇴함으로, 후계자로 최만금장로님이 오늘까지 수고하고 계시고, 

많은 발전을 해오고 있습니다. 이름을 수요사역으로 변경하였는데 젊은분들이 많이 들어오셨습니다.  

 

지금은 Beulah grant를 안받고, 교회재정으로 감당하고 있습니다. 

Ca/Nevada의 Beulah Grant를 Bay Area에있는 많은 한국교회들이 그 혜택을 받고 있습니다;

오클란드, 상항,  베델감리교회등등… 감사한 일입니다.

 

20 th Anniversary of Wednesday Ministry. English 8/1/2024 Katherine Kim

Yesterday, we celebrated our church Senior ministry’s 20th Birthday.

After worship service which included the sermon from Rev. Kwon for the stump, and special

singing from Beulah Group, we had a session of sharing our experience of Senior ministry

and special delicious luncheon which was provided by the younger members.

Katherine Kim started this Senior ministry in July 2004 with the blessing of Rev Sung Ho Lee.

She retired from Kaiser Permanente Medical Group as a pharmacist after serving for 36 years.

In April that year, she got commissioned as a deaconess. This is her deaconess ministry.

Deaconess is lay ministers who serve with love, justice, and service. She donated $2,000

her money to start the service.

The Program consisted of Exercise, singing, nutritious lunch program, and dancing.

We gave rides to the seniors who does not drive. Later we added line dancing which everyone

enjoyed it very much. Ms. Myung Soon Han provided her specialty cooking. We enjoyed her food.

Koreans love to sing and dancing. We all had a good time. About 15-20 seniors attended,

but now only two left; all passed away or moved.

Ca/Nevada Conference UMW (United Methodist Women) provided Beulah grant for

Senior group. We received $10,000 each year. With the grant, we all worked hard.

We went picnic to San Born Park, short trip to Filoli garden. Many volunteers helped.

Katherine Kim served 10.5 years and she retired from her Deaconess ministry.

Our church Elder Mandy Choi took over the program, and continued her successful program.

She changed the name of the senior program to Wednesday ministry. People started to come.

Right now, Wednesday program doesn’t receive money from the Beulah Grant, but it has

the support from our church.

Many Korean UMC churches in the Bay area such as Oakland, San Francisco, Bethel, etc

do receive the Beulah grant. We thank you God for the grant and for the opportunity to serve.
